  • Cinematic Storytelling Uncharted 5 On Work

Sony Interactive Entertainment has created a new studio in San Diego focused on making games and the info we got describes them working on a new Uncharted game, but now more job listings have surfaced that provide a clear picture.

Sony 3rd person action game Uncharted 5

Sony Interactive Entertainment San Diego Studio is managed by former ductile from the various first-party studios including Guerrilla Games, Naughty Dog, and Sucker Punch. As spotted in a job listing  for Lead Character Artist and Senior Gameplay Animator, are working on a “high quality, 3rd person, action/adventure game” while another listing calls it “next chapter of cinematic storytelling.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment San Diego is a brand new studio so the choices here are withstrained. Uncharted is the coolest move because Naughty Dog has already said that they are done with the series and the ending of Uncharted 4 was pretty clear in term of the future for the franchise.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy shows that these games don’t always need Nathan Drake and any spin-off character can carry off their own game. But if there is indeed a new Uncharted 5, it can come from this studio. Uncharted 5, or a spin-off, makes the most sense but this can also be a new IP, which is again another risky prospect for a new studio but will be a good foundation to build on heading into the new generation.
